Fairfax County Announces Enhanced Recycling Program
In case you missed the recent announcement, Fairfax County has expanded the curbside recycling service in our area. There are two changes, both of which are already in effect:
- Expanded plastics recycling—The County now accepts all plastic bottles, containers and lids (such as yogurt, cottage cheese and margarine tubs) as well as food-grade cups, and their lids. This eliminates the old "check the neck" rule which previously prohibited any container without a neck narrower than the container itself.
- Single stream recycling—The County also now accepts all materials in the same container, meaning you no longer have to separate paper and cardboard from plastic, glass and metal. This change is possible because the county now uses a single truck to collect the materials and they are sorted later, at the recycling facility.
